Google is not just releasing Nexus devices in google play store. In addtion to Nexus devices, google is release two more devices in google play store.
1. HTC ONE
2. Samsung Galaxy S4
These two devices are called Google Play Edition (GPE) devices. You can't find much differences on Google Play Edition phones.
But, Google Play Edition phones are receiving / providing faster updates for android OS. It must be true because Nexus 4 has already got its android 4.4 kitkat update.

Good news, we've delivered KitKat code to Google for HTC One GPE. Timing of push via PlayStore to be determined by Google.
So, What does it mean? Yes, Google Play Edition devices will receive updates from google. Even though, HTC has delivered the update for HTC ONE GPE, It is all in the hand of google to approve and provide the update for HTC ONE GPE.
There are good news and bad news.
The good news : HTC has submitted the Android 4.4 Kitkat update to google. :)
The bad news: It is not available for you to install the update on your device right now. :(
